It doesn't matter
what the Jews have done nor what antisemites say about them. If God didn't
keep his promises to Israel, to the physical descendants of Jacob, what kind
of God would he be? How could we trust him to keep any of his promises? Or
not to change the rules whenever he felt like it? The only hope of
forgiveness for sins to escape eternal damnation lies in God's character as a
promise keeper.

⁣Jay Carper discusses James 2:1-13. The Way (early Christianity) was different from all other religions of the Greco-Roman world in that it welcomed people of all social strata and wealth, putting them all on parity as equal members of the body of Christ. Plus the Torah as the Law of Liberty.

⁣The Common Sense Bible Study crew discusses James 2:14-26. What is the real relationship between faith and works? What is faith? James' analogy of "the body apart from the spirit is dead" is key to understanding the apparent conflict between Paul's "justified apart from works" and James' "justified by works and not by faith alone".

⁣The people rejected Moses as their leader in Numbers 14, but Moses didn't respond with anger or jealousy. He humbled himself before both the people and God and interceded on their behalf. He wasn't a leader for his own sake, but of the sake of the Kingdom and Name of God.

⁣Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Romans 12:6-8 ESV

God gives everyone a range of skillsets that we can use in service to his kingdom. Leadership, administration, mechanics, languages, etc. The list of possible gifts of God is endless! In this passage Paul mentions several of those gifts, and here's what each of them is really about.

Verse
Your Name is mighty, precious and holy
You're set apart in my praise. (2x)
Chorus
May Your praise reach heavens heights
Like fragrant incense burning on Your altar.
The tower of Your Name we will run to it
And find our shelter under Your great covering.
You’re set apart in my praise.
Bridge
So sad to see the world outside
Looking in thinking our God has no Name,
Well I'm here today to say, I'm here to proclaim
Know the power of the Name.

⁣Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20-21 ESV

God didn't give Moses his Law in order to create sin where it didn't exist before, but to magnify the sin we were already committing, so that nobody could deny it. Once we are made aware of our sin by the witness of the written commandments, we are also made aware of our need for God's grace.

Adam's sin brought death to all men, and that corruption leads all men to sin, subjecting them to the power of sin and death, which is the power of the Law to condemn. On the other hand, Yeshua's death enables God's grace to forgive our sin, releasing us from the Law's power to condemn, but not from its power to teach us right from wrong.

International conspiracy, global domination, lies, deception, extortion - sounds like a James Bond movie, doesn't it? Actually, it's in the pages of the Scriptures as they refer to the End of Days that could be quickly upon us all.

No one can or will be excluded from the events that have been prophesied to happen. A world leader is coming who will draw everyone to him so that, if it were possible, even the very elect would be deceived. He is infamously known as "The Anti-Christ (or Anti-Messiah)."

Rabbi Steve Berkson lays out very clearly in this teaching the how, what, and why to being able to recognize this one who will be the most evil person of all time and, just like a James Bond movie, there is a twist at the end.

⁣As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.
Romans 14:1 ESV

Are the "weak in faith" those people who believe trying to obey the Law or in keeping those commandments that are distinctively "Jewish"? Or are they people who are so afraid of breaking an actual commandment that they add all kinds of new rules just to be safe?

The parallels between Joseph and Yeshua (Jesus) aren't just remarkable, they are prophetic and establish our understanding of the relationship between Yahweh and His Son.

Thank you for watching Gleaning The Scriptures. This video and it's accompanying article compare and contrast Isaiah 11 with Hosea 10 to eek out the meaning of an undefined term in Hebrew: Ayam. This unknown word is a treasure hunt that helps God's people to have that much of a closer relationship with Him.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated for being a civil rights leader. We are all really bothered by his murder and the increasing violence in society. Many folks, even those who followed Charlie, did not know he kept the biblical sabbath. If his death has moved you to look into Christianity or the biblical Sabbath, please reach out. And our reaction to his murder needs to be one of love, mercy, and understanding for each other.

⁣Division in the body of Messiah does not bring glory to God. Although such division is prophesied throughout Scripture in stories like that of Joseph and his brothers, it's a shameful thing. We need to submit to one another on matters of opinion on which the Bible is silent or ambiguous.

The story of Judah and Tamar is inserted in the middle of the story of Joseph so that we can see the contrast between the two men. There are numerous parallels between their stories. Here are just a few:

-Signs of authority: Joseph's robe and Judah's ring/staff/cord
-Identity via signs: Whose robe is this? and Whose ring/staff/cord is this?
-Relation to Father: Joseph is favored and Judah seeks favor
-Separated to foreigners: Joseph by force and Judah by choice
-Priest's daughter: Asenath the Egyptian and Tamar the Canaanite
-Tempted: Potiphar's wife and Tamar
-Twin swap: Ephraim/Manasseh and Perez/Zerah
-Loss of sons: By adoption and by death

Wild Branch Community in Brenham, Texas, also talked about the adoption of foreigners (such as Tamar, Rahab, you, and me) into Israel, the reasons for levirate marriage, and some of the cultural norms behind this controversial story.

⁣Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19 ESV

"Vengeance is mine, says the Lord" does not mean we shouldn't pursue justice or restitution, but it does mean that we shouldn't be trying to get even, to make other people hurt just because they made us hurt. Our goal should always be to make the world a better place, not to make everyone equally miserable.
